World day for Grandparents and Elderly - Sunday, July 28th
Established by Pope Francis in 2021 in recognition of Grandparents and the Elderly for their role and vocation in passing on their faith to the next generation. Theme for this year is: “Do not cast me off in my old age”.

In addition to a candle lighting during Holy Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock, a candle will be lit at the top of our Holy Mountain, Croagh Patrick on Reek Sunday. We hope that, on that day, candles honouring Grandparents and the Elderly will also be lit in homes everywhere, shining the light on all they have done and continue to do in our families and our Church.

O Lord, God of our Fathers, who bestowed
on Saints Joachim and Anne this grace,
that of them should be born the
Mother of your Incarnate Son.
Grant, through the prayers of both,
that we may attain the salvation
you have promised to your people.

Lord God almighty, bless our grandparents
with long life, happiness, and health.
May they remain constant in your love and be living s
igns of your presence to their children and grandchildren.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
