Diocesan changes
At the moment preparation for changes is taking place. We extend a very warm welcome to Fr. Nicholas James Irwin who is coming as our new Parish Priest. We express our sorrow and give our best wishes to Fr. Joe who is going as curate to Upperchurch and we wish many years of fulfilment to Fr. O'Rourke as Assistant Priest in his new home in the parish.
Morning Mass
Gortnahoe: Each morning except Friday at 9.30
Glengoole: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 9.30.
First Thursday
Glengoole: Mass in Latin and Blessing of Candles for Candlemas Day at 7.00.
First Friday
Glengoole: Mass and Blessing of Throats at 7.00.
Gortnahoe: School Mass 10.00. Evening mass 8.00. Blessing of throats at both.
First Saturday
Devotions of Reparation and Mass at 9.30.
Candlemas
Candles to be blessed for the coming year will be done at Masses on Thursday. Candles can be bought in the shop or in Glengoole Church
Catholic Schools Week this week.
Mass on Friday in Gortnahoe at 10.00.
The Annual Clerks Collection
The Collection for the clerks of Gortnahoe and Glengoole Churches is taking place this week-end. We really appreciate the kindness, conscientiousness and generosity of Josie and Bridie. As this is the only Collection for them during the year we ask you all to give generously.
Church Unity
The Annual Church Unity Ceremony will be in Kilcooley Church this Sunday at 7.00. We invite a large number to participate. As this is a ceremony involving a number of people reading short prayers, we would be delighted if you volunteer and could contact Fr. O'Rourke or Fr. Joe after Mass.
Coffee Morning
Gortnahoe School Parents Association will hold a Coffee Morning on Sunday 5th February in the Community Hall, Gortnahoe at 12.00. Homemade cakes, tarts, buns, etc will also be available for sale. All donations kindly received will go towards the book rental scheme.
Golf Society AGM
Mary Willies Golf Society will hold their AGM on Saturday 4th February at 9.00 in Mary Willies. Existing and new members are invited.
GAA Lotto
No winner of the €5,600 Jackpot on January 26th at Hogans, Ballysloe. The numbers drawn were 13, 21 26 and 29. Lucky Dip winners were Siobhan Fahey, Graigaheesha, Bridget O'Connell, c/o Dollys, Paddy Neary, c/o Jimmy Meighan, Trevor Webster, Gortnahoe. €25 Sellers Prize was Michael Holohan. Next Draw on 2nd February at Hogans, Grange for €5,800.
Drama
Glengoole-Gortnahoe Drama Group will produce the award winning play "The Lonesome West" by Martin McDonagh in Glengoole Hall on 9th, 10th & 11th & 12th February at 8.00. This play may not be suitable for children.
Six Week Maths Programme
A Six Week Maths Programme in Gortnahoe Hall, starting on February 20th, aimed at Leaving Cert and Junior Cert students will run each night for Junior Students from 7.30 to 8.15 and for Leaving Cert students from 8.15 to 9.00, tuition by qualified teachers. Fees are €10.00 per night or €50 if you pay for the full course on the first night. Text your name, level (Higher/Ordinary) and year to 087 1482056. This is a Fund Raiser for St. Vincent de Paul Society.
