Vocations Sunday

Vocations
This is the week-end of special prayer and support of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Please remember this and pray for them.

Morning Masses
Glengoole: each morning at 9.30.
Gortnahoe: each morning at 9.30.

First Communion
First Communion for the children of Gortnahoe school will take place on Saturday morning next at 11.00. Please pray for the children.

May Procession
The Annual May Procession in honour of Our Lady in Glengoole, organised by the Legion of Mary, will be on Sunday next 22nd May. As in other years, all First Communion children from the parish are invited and will have a special place in the Procession.

Note from the Parish Council
At a recent meeting of the Parish Council Fr. O'Rourke and Fr. Walsh were thanked for the reverent manner the ceremonies were carried out over the Easter period. It was uplifting for the parish to have so many in attendance. The parish team and the choirs were also thanked sincerely.

At the same meeting finance was discussed. The Parish Council was disappointed to note that only 228 families out of approximately 700 had contributed to the Easter Collection for the upkeep of the archbishop and priests of the diocese.

The Parish Council requested that the Easter contributions be handed in immediately, as the finance committee will be meeting in two weeks to review the situation. Parishioners, please remember that the annual levy from the parish is approximately €43,000 and it is important that this target be met.

Parish Annual Meeting
The first meeting for the Parish Annual will be held at Fr. O'Rourke's home on Monday 23rd May at 9.00. All members involved last year are invited and new members most welcome. Contact either of the priests.

The Defibrillator Team
Gortnahoe Community Association and the Community Playgroup are in the process of buying a Defibrillator for the parish. Anyone wishing to train as part of 'The Defibrillator Team' please leave your name with Ann Stokes in the Post Office, 056 8834101 on or before May 31st. The more people trained in the use of a defibrillator the better the support system for our parish.

Cancer Collection
A Church Gate Collection for the Irish Cancer Society will be held on the week-end of 28th & 29th May. Please contribute generously.

Community Playgroup
Gortnahoe Community Playgroup are now taking enrolments for Sept. 2011. Children aged 2 years & 10 months to 6 years may apply. ECCE Scheme places are now limited. Contact Playschool at 056 8834840 or Stella at 087 6509625.

Garden Fete
Support the Presentation Secondary School, Thurles Annual Garden Fete on Sunday 22nd May from 2.00 to 5.00. A wonderful afternoon.

GAA Lotto
No winner of the € 10,400 on 12th May at Hogans, Grange. Winning numbers were 7, 10, 12 and 29. Lucky Dip winners were Joe O'Brien, St. Kierans, Urlingford, Sharon Slattery, c/o Tony Ivors, Joe Harding, c/o Buddys, Olivia Maher, Patrick's Gate, Gortnahoe. Next Draw at Mary Willies on 19th May for € 10,600. € 25 Sellers Prize winner was Marion Campion.

County Board Draw
The new draw begins May 20th. We remember the great work done by promoters in past years and especially Liam Butler, who has passed away. His members will now be looked after by his wife Kathleen Butler and Margaret Langton, Please give your full support by joining the Draw.

Prayer for Vocations
O Jesus, send labourers into your fields, which are awaiting saintly priests, heroic missionaries, gentle and tireless sisters. Enkindle in the hearts of young people the spark of a vocation. Grant that Christian families may desire to give helpers to the church in the work of to-morrow. Amen.
