Jubilee Year
Jubilee Year 2025 has been declared by Pope Francis as a “Jubilee Year of Hope”, The theme for this year will be ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ and it will be a year of hope for a world suffering the impacts of wars and the climate crisis. In accordance with the wishes of the Holy Father, the Archbishop will celebrate both the beginning of and the launch of the Jubilee Year in the Archdiocese with Mass in Thurles Cathedral, this Sunday, Dec 29th, at 11.00am. All peoples within the Archdiocese are invited by the Archbishop to attend, if they can.

Christmas Clergy Collection
This collection, which was taken up last weekend, is for the support of priests, active & retired in the Archdiocese. It is the last collection for 2024 and Míle Búiochas to all those who contributed so generously to all the collections during the past year. The Yearly Boxes of envelopes (Offertory, Clergy, etc) for 2025 are been distributed at the present moment.

Sincerest Thanks

This Christmas of 2024 is my 2nd Christmas here in the parish of Gortnahoe & Glengoole and I hope that all of you had a very happy, peaceful, joyful and Christ-centered Christmas.

As we approach the end of another year, I would like to take this opportunity to say sincerest thanks to all who helped in any way both in the parish and in the two Churches in the celebration of the various liturgies. Thanks to our Sacristans, Eileen Broderick, Mary McGivern and the other volunteer sacristans of Glengoole Church, for their work over the past year and for their help, support and guidance to me. Thanks to all who participate in the Sacred Liturgy in various ways throughout the year – Ministers of the Eucharist, Readers, altar-servers, flower arrangers, singers, musicians, offertory collectors, Family Mass group, etc. A word of thanks to those who clean both Churches on a regular basis, to those who looked after the Readers roster in both Churches as well as to those who faithfully attend the Eucharistic Adoration in both Churches every Wednesday & Thursday. Thanks also to all those who distributed collection envelopes throughout the parish and sincerest thanks to you all for your generous contributions to the various collections.

Each year we have a beautiful crib in both churches and thanks to those who erect and decorate them for they are a lovely visual aid in illustrating the greatest love story ever told when God, in Jesus Christ, came and lived among us – ‘The Word became flesh, He lived among us’, – as we are reminded in the Angelus Prayer each day.

There are numerous other people who have helped, donated to and supported the parish in different ways during the year, but who do not wished to be named – so to all these & to those whose names I may have omitted – ‘Go raibh mile, mile, búiochas agaibh’.

A reminder once again that if there are any elderly or housebound who would like to receive Holy Communion, please let me know so that I can add them to my monthly visitation list. Also if you have a family member who is sick in hospital or is resident in a Nursing Home anywhere, please let me know so that I may visit them.

A word of welcome to all who have moved into the parish and to all the new-born babies baptised within the past year. Sincerest sympathies to all the families in the parish who lost a loved one during the past year and congratulations to all those who got married.

Thank you once again for your support of me during 2024 and I look forward to your continual support throughout the coming year. May God our Father, the Infant Jesus and our Blessed Mother reward and bless you all.
– Fr. James Walton PP.
