Lorrha foil Gortnahoe double bid

Credit Union's Tipperary Minor Football 'C' Championship Semifinal

Lorrha 1-11, Gortnahoe-Glengoole 0-6

  • Lorrha qualified for the Co. Minor 'C' Football Final by virtue of a 1-11 to 0-6 win over Gortnahoe-Glengoole in Moneygall. Gortnahoe opened the scoring in the 1st minute with a fine point kicked by Aidan Langton. However, Lorrha stormed back into the game and in the 5th minute scored a goal. Gortnahoe’s response was swift. A further point by Kenneth Hickey in the 6th minute was quickly followed by an equalising score from Thomas Duggan. It was to be the only time in the game that the teams would be level. Lorrha went on the rampage and four unanswered points between the 11th and the 23rd minute put them 4 points clear. Gortnahoe however, were not without their fair share of possession and could have been closer at this stage if they had taken their chances. Gortnahoe's Aidan Langton kicked his second point In the 26th minute to reduce the arrears to 3 points but Lorrha responded with 2 points before half time to ensure a 5-point lead at half time, 16 to 0.4,

Gortnahoe started the second half like men possessed, and a point from Kenneth Hickey in the 42nd minute, and a further point from John Broderick in the 45th minute reduced the arrears again to 3 points. In this period of the game, Gortnahoe were literally camped in the Lorrha half of the field, but they were wasteful in front of goal and this was to prove their undoing, as Lorrha scored 5 points without reply between the 49th minute and the end of the game. Gortnahoe had a chance of a goal with 3 minutes left but Sean Lahert's penalty went wide,

Lorrha's best players were John Maher, Tony Hogan, Conor O'Sullivan, David O'Sullivan, Mark Houlihan and Colm Duggan. Best for Gortnahoe on the night were Aidan Langton, Kenneth Hickey, Kevin Maher, Nigel O'Gorman and Sean Lahert.
