Holycross Abbey – Visit of St. Bernadette Relic
The visit of St. Bernadette Relic to Holycross Abbey will take place on Thursday and Friday, Sept 19th & 20th. This very special, once-in-lifetime event will provide an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the special gifts and charisms of Lourdes in our Diocese.  We invite everyone to join us for this wonderful occasion.

Thursday 19th September

  • 9am - Ceremony of Welcome; 9.30am – 5pm.
    Veneration and private prayer
  • 5pm – 7.30pm.  Rosary and Veneration. 7.30pm
    Mass with Anointing of the Sick
  • 8.30pm - Torchlight procession (weather permitting).
  • 9pm – 10pm.  Veneration


Friday 20th September

  • 8am – 10am. Veneration and private prayer.
  • 10am - Novena and Farewell Mass
  • 11am – 12noon.  Veneration and private prayer.  
  • 12 noon - Angelus and departure of Relic for Ossory Diocese.

St Vincent de Paul Society
There will be some Financial help available for students wishing to pursue Third Level Courses in the coming Academic Year. Please contact 061 317327 or any member of local Vincent de Paul Society for further information and Application Forms. Proof of Registration from College will be necessary before Applications can be processed. Accommodation Costs should also be included. Completed Application Forms to be returned by 4th October.

Concert in the Cathedral of the Assumption
Celtic Brothers starring The Willoughby’s in Concert in the Cathedral of the Assumption, on Friday, Sept. 27th, 2024. All proceeds to Cathedral Reroofing Project. Tickets on sale in Thurles Parish Centre (0504 22229), Bookworm, Liberty Square and Holycross Abbey Shop.

Junior All Ireland Camogie Cup
Our All Ireland winning player Sophie Pembroke will be bringing the All Ireland cup to Gortnahoe GAA field on Monday evening 16th September at 6.30 and we invite you all to come out and show your support for the player of the match. 

Men on the Move classes
Men on the Move classes take place every Monday morning 11:15-12:15 in the Millennium Family Resource Centre. Gentle Fitness with a focus on: Men’s Health, Nutrition Advice, Maintaining Mobility Levels and Positive Ageing. To book contact Alice 083-1014313

National Culture Night
Way Down Underground – A Miner’s Life through Song and Story – on Friday, 20th September in Glengoole Hall at 8pm. Doors open 7.30pm.

27th Anniversary playing bingo in Gortnahoe
Gortnahoe Hall are celebrating the 27th anniversary of playing bingo. This special bingo will take place on Saturday 21st September at 4pm, doors opening at 3pm. Over €4,000 in prize money on offer including a special game for €500 and an anniversary special game for €800. There will be Split the Pot which include hamper prizes. It would be great to see a big turnout from the parish for a great evening of entertainment for all.

Gortnahoe Community Employment Scheme
Gortnahoe Community Employment Scheme is looking to recruit a full-time paid Supervisor. Details of the position and application are on Jobs Ireland. Participant vacancies on the scheme for Caretaker, Maintenance Operative and Eldercare Kitchen Assistants are also on Job Ireland.

Anam Cara
