The Late Fr. John Joe O'Rourke
The late Fr. John Joe O'Rourke who died on Friday, July 23, 2021We are very sad to report the passing of Fr. John Joe O'Rourke on Friday, July 23, after a long illness. He served the people of Gortnahoe and Glengoole parish faithfully and with huge dedication for more than three decades. Fr. John Joe was an important part of the lives of so many people here and further afield, and will be greatly missed. Siochán síoraí dá anam lách. Removal from O'Connell's Funeral Home, Killenaule, this Sunday evening 25th July at 5pm, via Ballynonty, Glengoole, Ballysloe, arriving at Sacred Heart Church, Gortnahoe, at 5.30pm. Reposing from 5.30pm to 8pm. Office of the Dead evening prayer at 8pm. Requiem Mass on Monday at 12 noon, followed by burial in the Good Shepherd Cemetery. Ordinary mass times:
The mass times are as they were last year:

  • Mondays:        9.30 am in Gortnahoe
  • Tuesdays:        9.30 am in Glengoole
  • Wednesdays:   7.30 pm in Glengoole
  • Thursdays:       No mass
  • Fridays:           7.30 pm in Gortnahoe
  • Saturdays:       6.30 pm in Glengoole
  • Sundays:          10.30 am in Gortnahoe.

Some current regulations are summarised below.
In Glengoole there is a limit of 50 people for masses. In Gortnahoe there is a limit of 50 people (obeying social distance regulations) in the main aisle, plus a smaller number of people (socially distanced) in the side aisles.

Funerals
There is a limit of 50 mourners permitted at the service in both churches. Related events, either before or after, should not take place. Funerals are still considered private family events and all notices in newspapers or online should be clear about this. Funeral services should continue to be live streamed to help reduce numbers attending. Attendance at wakes in private homes and at funeral homes remains unchanged i.e., immediate family only and people should be discouraged from queuing to pay respects.
